Everyone can be marketer

I am not sure if this happens to most of the Marketing graduate when you mention about your major to a stranger: Situation A Me: I majored in Marketing. Stranger: Oh, do you need to major in selling? Me: Selling is just part of marketing process. Stranger looks at you in puzzle - isn't it the same? Situation B Me: I am a Marketing graduate. Stranger: Ah. To be honest, everyone can be a marketer without graduating as one. Me: Yes, you are right. It's really about common sense most of the time but not many are privileged with that ability. People seem to misunderstand and disparage marketing profession by scoffing at how easy it is to sell with talks only. In most of the circumstances, people comment marketing is all about common sense. I have to agree to this remark wholeheartedly just because common sense is no longer common in practices nowadays. However, strategy is another part of marketing that delivers the talk. It's as easy as quoting example of ho...

I want to write again

I want to write again. I stop reading when I stop writing, which decelerates learning - as if it's important to restart this habit. I used to write a lot, ranging from intelligible advice, biased perspective of society, college/office whine, daily experience, melancholy, to total gibberish, and that made me happy after clicking the Publish button. At one point of time, I was rather obsessed with customising the blog background and layout by using the basic html. I could achieve great satisfaction from writing and building website; what's more imagine it was the era without much resources from Google, 8MP phone camera, photoshop software, and widgets. Recall of when I stopped writing: After starting my second job - it was a crazily-skewed learning curve at work and at office politics. I didn't have much time to write and whine and I knew it added more negativity by writing them out. I worried I might regret one day for the outpourings of discontent with life. Bloggin...

Dreaming time

Something to be ashamed of when I was asked about my dream job, dream house and dream car recently because I do not have a very specific one in mind. I hardly dream about tangible dream, which in opposite, it is more on those intangible ones, i.e. freedom, security, and love. Practical yet still keep the idealism within a very small, sacred part of me.  Whenever I hear someone comments about how much they earn, how many assets in possession, and how many countries they have been to, I will probably just nod and do not know how to go on and probe for more questions such as 'what's your damage for the trip', 'owh that's nice. How's the neighbourhood?', 'oh my god I am so envy! Can I get a free ride later?' The silence will normally be interpreted as jealousy or uninterested; and then they would turn to the exciting crowd. Ah. That makes me an uninteresting person, not-so supportive friend, and notoriously is known as a hugest dork alive. So I gues...

Life restructuring

Image
Today, I am motivated to restructure my life. No matter how hectic my job is, I shouldn't use it as excuse to not live a life like what others could. Life should be more than just corporate ladder and money. So this is what I'm going to do: 1) Lay out the financial status Figure out the fixed commitment, variable expenses, debt level, saving level. I do believe part of restructuring involved monetary solution to either pay off debt, save enough, and invest in new hobby. First step of liberation in making choice is when you're financially stable. 2) Set life planner To seek balance between life and work, set a planner for all the major events. In work, jot down the appointments, deadlines and to-do lists. It's more tricky in life events. Firstly, me-time; followed by family, then social circles. Me-time refers to exercise, hobby, and the beloved. Family is more to lunch or dinner. Social circles are classified to personal gathering and work socialising. When the maj...

Fifteen

Let's say there is only one thing I wanna go back to my high school, besides studying hard and running hard to represent the school, is that I wanted to be in a relationship. A funny guy who knew how to sweep my feet off and liked me at the same time. We might not be able to learn about love at that time though. But at least we would be very creative to impress each other - compete for being the most romantic partner, giving the best of the best just to make one laugh. It becomes so rare and leads me to think that it only happens in high school.

Get a life

I always get asked of what would I be doing after work. Sleep no later than 9pm. Like seriously, I can't afford to lose my healthy skin to nightlife. Well, maybe not for this month. But I think I'm lucky enough to sleep without getting awaken by dreams in the middle of the night. Good, heavy sleeper. Glad insomnia rarely visit, like, never in years already. At the same time of revealing my after-work activity, it's very easily attracting a predictable doubt like, "Man, so no life meh?" or some regular feedback on getting a life after working hours. But frankly, do I really need nighttime activity to prove the fact that I am conspicuously living a life and leading a normal lifestyle? My living just can't afford to have your vision on it and your value for life doesn't really equivalent to mine; and living under the shadow of everyone else is simply losing a living entity I have so much respect for. Or the all-time-favourite example of living a popular life ...

Spare change

That was my birthday. I went to the original white coffee shop with my mate. Here came a beggar who spoke fluent Cantonese, "Hi Miss! I wish you have good health." We were then paused our conversation, quietly sipping our respective iced white coffee. His bowl came before me. I just laid down my head and looked away. My mate was just starring. I then put up my palm and signaled him to go away. He was still repeating the phrase before he left, "Missy, I wish you have good health." This moment, we finally stopped speaking to each other. 20 seconds later, she asked, why didn't you just donate to him? I replied nonchalantly of having a really bad experience with terrible liar who cheated my kindness. She asked again, "What if he really needs the money for a bun or a cup of water?" Silent invaded afterward. "Looking at his back, that sight really hurts my heart. I wished I had spare change to buy him something to eat." She regretted of her act, an...

Up up and away

Got my dreams, got my life, got my love, got my friends, got the sunshine above Why am I making this hard on myself when there's so many beautiful reasons I have to be happy :) The big guy above thought it would only be fair to equip me with endless optimism, healthy body and a strong heart to laugh away all the obstacles that lie ahead. Metaphorically said, I should blow all the unpleasant emotions into a balloon and release it into the air.
